National Palace Museum

This Saturday we went to the National Palace Museum. It was a short bus ride from the MRT station. The entrance fee was NT200 for students.

I went with Celina and Tony. We decided to take a group picture out front with the Confucious statue.

Here is a photograph of the outside area. Unfortunately this is pretty much all the photos I was able to take because cameras weren't allowed to be used once inside the museum. Inside the museum we visited many exhibits. One of the more special exhibits was the Tibetan religious artifacts exhibit. The exhibit featured many ancient pieces that Tibetan monks used for their religious ceremonies. I especially liked the bronze pieces the Tibetans used. They were carefully designed and have lasted hundreds of years.

After the Tibet exhibit we went to the other side of the museum and toured the Qing dynasty exhibit. My favorite exhibit there was the old documents used and signed by the imperial family. We tried to visit the Qing furniture exhibit, but it was closed. After the Qing exhibit we went to the restaurant inside of the museum. It was supposedly famous for their Cantonese style dishes. I thought the prices were expensive and service very rude.

Here is a photo I took of Tony and Celina in the lobby area. This was when we were about to leave. The most memorable part of the trip was when an old lady asked me if I was a local of the area. I said yes, and then she asked me where she could buy some tea. I believe she specifically asked me about the tea because I was wearing a strawhat which made it look like I was one of those people who sold fruits and vegetables on the streets.

Jiufen

Our trip to Jiufen was great. We started off by taking a thirty minute bus ride up some mountains. I originally thought we were going to hike up the side of a mountain. I didn't know there would be a road.

The shops in Jiufen were all very unique. Some shops carried products that had a lot of history. For example: we visited a store that carried items from 1950's Taiwan.

We also saw a store that sold hand made masks made from mud.

I was excited to see a store that carried strawhats. I bought one for NT100. It was more expensive than I thought it would be, but I'm happy.

Vanessa and Celina were good tour guides.

They introduced me to a lot of the local foods. I didn't eat much of it, but I still saw how it was made.

My favorite store was the store with the masks made from mud. The guy has been making the masks for thirty one years and is very good at what he does.

Taipei Zoo

The Taipei zoo was bigger than I expected. The entrance fee of $30.00 was very low considering the size of the zoo. There weren't too many photo opportunities because the use of flash on the camera was prohibited and some of the animals housed outside were not in their cages. Out of all the animals we saw my favorite was the panda bears. The thing I like about pandas is that they're cute, but fierce.

Celina and Vanessa seemed to have had a good time. I think Celina was more interested in the aquatic species while Vanessa liked the Koala bears more. We taught each other the names of the animals in our respective languages. I think their ability to read English is better than my ability to read Chinese.

One of the more interesting things I saw at the zoo was this gum board. I think the workers at the zoo didn't want people to chew gum while inside one of the exhibits so they put a board on the wall instructing people to put their gum there before entering. Why not just use a trash can?

One of the larger animals we saw the zoo was the buffalo. I am familiar with the buffalo because they are native to the North American continent. Indians used to hunt them for food and clothing. The picture I took really doesn't show how large these animals are. It also doesn't show how much they stink.

Taipei zoo situational learning trip

Tomorrow Celina, Vanessa and I will be visiting the Taipei zoo. I looked on the Taipei zoo website and it said student entrance fees are only $30 per person with identification. The map of the zoo shows there are quite a few different sections featuring different types of animals from reptiles to African animals. I will be taking a lot of pictures so hopefully it doesn't rain tomorrow.

After visiting the zoo I will be posting pictures on here of the different animals and scenes from the zoo.
